Kids are not complex, but they do express themselves in ways many adults don't recognize. We have to open our minds to possibilities we have not yet experienced.
Sometimes we get lucky. Other times we're just off the mark. But imagine if we did uncover something that had been a terrible secret for some time. That might really be helpful to the particular parent.
Your in-depth analysis could serve to shed light on a particular problem that a child may be experiencing. It also bridges the gap nicely between short story writing and parenting.
